The research done by the University di Torino showed that as early as the Bronze Age the area of Monte li Santi was inhabited by a small group of people. Between 1400 and 1000 B.C. it is believed that groups of humans lived in northern Lazio. They were organized in small nuclear habitations, united in agricultural and pastoral activities.
Probably the need to defend themselves from attack by other nearby communities forced these people to choose the high volcanic plateaus. Here they were well protected from the deep canyons and the valley floors of the Treja. The habitat of Monte li Santi must have appeared like a proper fortress, a safe location to defend and control the surrounding territory. This ideal situation enabled it to prosper for at least four hunded years.
